Job Description: The Staff Psychiatrist or Staff Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner has medical and psychiatric responsibility in collaboration with the Clinical Director for the clinical work at the outpatient mental health clinic within the center. She/he/they conducts diagnostic interviews, medication evaluations, prescribes medication, prepares reports, and participates in diagnostic and treatment team conferences.

The Staff Psychiatrist or Staff Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is a part-time position, approximately 5 hours per week to start, reporting to the Clinic director

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts diagnostic evaluations and assessments of children and adolescents, and of parents when necessary, and prepares a detailed report of their findings that is placed in the client’s file and shared with clinical team
  • Participates in diagnostic and treatment team conferences
  • Prescribes medication when indicated
  • Provides treatment, supervision, consultation, or teaching if indicated and time permits
  • Provides emergency consultation, at least by phone
  • Carries out administrative duties related to the above tasks, such as dictation, writing letters, etc.
  • Demonstrates awareness of systemic oppression and its influence
  • Develops effective relationships with a culturally responsive lens with individuals, families, and groups
  • Applies knowledge of individual and cultural diversity in practice
  • Pursues professional development about individual and cultural responsiveness
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Clinic Director

Qualifications & Required Skills:

Staff Psychiatrist:

  • Medical degree required, either MD or DO
  • New York State Medical License required
  • Completion of an approved 3-year residency in psychiatry

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner:

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing with specialization in psychiatry
  • New York State RN License required
  • Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certificate required

Additional Qualifications:

  • Certification or eligibility to be certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or Nursing
  • Bilingual required: candidates with strong communication skills in both English and Spanish are highly desirable

Job Description: The Billing and Intake Coordinator is responsible for the management of billing regulations governing the New York State Medicaid/Medicare and Private Insurance Providers guidelines, interprets and applies frequent changes in program regulations to expedite applications and service provision.

The Billing and Intake Coordinator must have advanced knowledge of government, private, and commercial insurances and managed care and experience with Article 31 mental health billing and coding. Primary duties include but are not limited to: consistently follow up on unpaid claims utilizing monthly aging reports and filing appeals when appropriate to obtain maximum reimbursement.

Additionally, this position will oversee the recruitment, orientation, training and supervision of billing student interns to support with all billing and health administrative efforts within the clinic. Secondary duties include but are not limited to: data entry of all patient demographic, guarantor and insurance information, posting procedures and insurance/patient payments balance to daily deposits, internal communication with clinical mental health team regarding client insurance information. The Billing and Intake Coordinator will also support in the enrollment process of all incoming client accounts by verifying the insurance information for all newly enrolled clients, inputting all necessary insurance information into the FYI database system, and communicating internally to the mental health clinical team when a newly enrolled client’s insurance has been approved for the continuation of enrollment.

The Billing and Intake Coordinator is a part-time position, approximately 5-10 hours per week, reporting to the Clinic Director.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Computer experience is essential, including, but not limited to: practice management software, word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Experience in CPT and ICD-9 coding; familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage relationships with various Insurance payers.
  • Experience in filing claim appeals with insurance companies to ensure maximum entitled reimbursement.
  • Responsible use of confidential information.
  • Perform to company standards of compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Ability to multi-task and work courteously and respectfully with fellow employees, clients and patients.

Detailed Work Activities

  • Ensures all claims are submitted with a goal of zero errors.
  • Verifies completeness and accuracy of all claims prior to submission with contracted Billing Company.
  • Timely follow up on insurance claim denials, exceptions or exclusions.
  • Meets deadlines.
  • Oversees the re-credentialing of contracts with partnered insurance providers
  • Reads and interpretes insurance explanation of benefits.
  • Utilizes monthly aging accounts receivable reports to follow up on unpaid claims aged over 30 days. • Make necessary arrangements for medical and mental health records requests, completion of additional information requests, etc. as requested by insurance companies.
  • Responds to inquiries from insurance companies, patients and providers.
  • Regularly meets with Financial Manager and Billing Company to discuss and resolve reimbursement issues or billing obstacles.
  • Regularly attends monthly staff meetings and continuing educational sessions as requested.
  • Performs additional duties as requested by Supervisory or Management team.

Qualifications & Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree required (in Healthcare Administration, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services or related field)
  • 2 years of relevant experience in a social services organization
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification through the American Academy of Professional Coders
  • Bilingual preferred: strong English communication skills essential
  • Able to listen non-judgmentally in order to build authentic relationships with parents and caregivers
  • Experience leading workshops centered in strengthening interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in verifying eligibility for insurance claims

  • Must have solid understanding of CPT, modifiers, ICD-10, & HCPCS codes
  • Must be able to utilize and supervise medical billing and coding interns to apply insurance web tools to check on patient eligibility, remittance status, and unpaid claims.
  • Must be able to read and interpret payer guidelines and policies, including medical necessity and documentation requirements
  • Must be able to utilize MS Outlook, Word, & Excel to perform job duties
  • Must be familiar with HIPAA and patient privacy
  • Must be familiar with collections, follow up and appeals processes

Job Description: The Utilization Review Specialist is responsible for quality assurance of client documentation, utilization management and quality clinical documentation monitoring. The UR Specialist develops clinical documentation regulations and guidelines in accordance with the New York State Office of Mental Health, justifies clinical services and ensures that all clinical practices for children and families receiving services through FYI are appropriately documented and recorded within a timely manner.

The Utilization Review Specialist ensures that all clinical charts for documentations are up-to-date and in compliance with the New York State Office of Mental Health standards.

This is a part-time position, approximately 5 hours per week to start, reporting to the Clinic Director.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reviews all intake assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, comprehensive assessments, trauma assessments, and medical documentation for each client enrolled in the clinic
  • Reviews all clinical files on children and families who have been discharged from the clinic to ensure their documentation is in accordance with the New York State Office of Mental Health and FYI objectives, and works with the clinical staff to assure high quality care with effective, efficient utilization of health services
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary treatment teams to ensure that services are authorized and clinically appropriate and reflected throughout the required filing and charting process
  • Bi-Weekly review of clinical charts onsite of wellness center
  • Provides reports and feedback to Clinic Director
  • Trains staff on documentation compliance
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required (in Healthcare, Social Work, Psychology or related field)
  • Valid Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) required. Applicant must be an LCSW.
  • Must have a minimum of one-year Post-Master’s experience in an article 31 outpatient Mental Health Clinical Setting
  • Knowledge of National Council on Quality Assurance (NCQA), DSM-IV/V codes, psychotropic medications and behavioral medicine disease states
  • Bilingual preferred: strong English communication skills essential
  • Experience in child welfare, youth services or mental health
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills
  • Rigorous attention to detail within a customer-focused environment
  • Experience in treatment planning and review

In 2007, FYI planted its roots in the community, constructing a four-story headquarters and community center on West 171st Street in Washington Heights. FYI has since evolved into a multi-site, multi-service agency serving 2,000 Washington Heights/Inwood children and adults annually with programs that embrace a whole-child approach. Job Description: This is a part-time position, September through June, 2:00-6:00pm. Group leaders work in either our elementary or middle school after-school programs.
