New High School Program Launching September 2016: Seeking Bilingual MSW Program Director

Overview

The role of the Program Director is to build and manage a school-based program that helps students to transition into high school, succeed through the ninth and tenth grades, and flourish in their high school experience (COMPASS High). Overall, the Program Director – with strong support and in collaboration with the FYI team - is responsible for the integrity of COMPASS High program services, building strong, positive relationships with school, parents, and community service providers, complying with contract requirements, and creating a positive program culture that reflects the values, principles, and practices of community social work and FYI.  The Program Director provides group and individual advisory and will supervise graduate social work students in similar advisory roles. 

Qualifications

·          Master’s degree in Social Work

·          Three years of experience working with high school youth, including counseling or advisory

·          Two years of experience supervising staff

·          Experience working with teachers and parents (in a DOE setting, with knowledge of DOE practices and norms)

·          Demonstrated competence facilitating groups

·          Strong written and oral communication skills

·          Spanish fluency and demonstrated cultural competence (of the population described above)

Responsibilities

In collaboration with school personnel, establish outreach, intake, and advisory system:

·         Engage and retain youth in COMPASS High

·         Develop and manage high quality advisory services employing both individual and group methodologies

·         Create system for tracking student goals and gains including credits needed to graduate

·         Facilitate and/or participate in team conferences to develop individualized plans for advancing student success

·         Establish group programming that engages youth in new activities (e.g., art show, improvisational group, service learning) ensuring sequenced, incremental learning, hands-on experiences, opportunities for reflection, and culminating events that synthesize learning

·         Ensure healthy group development through team building activities and strength-based group and individual practices

·         Supervise Social Work Interns; provide written evaluations based on observation and other data

·         Monitor program delivery and performance outcomes

·         Use data to assess program quality, student performance outcomes, and to improve services

·         Participate in FYI’s Senior Team Meetings to coordinate service delivery, resources, and all administrative supports

·         Ensure timely, relevant, and well-organized services

·         Ensure contract compliance

·         Sustain a rate of participation for enrolled participants that exceeds DYCD standards

·         Ensure timely submission of all related program paperwork 

·         Communicate the vision, values, goals and objectives of the COMPASS High Program to all stakeholders.
