The Director of Development.  FYI is seeking an experienced fundraising generalist who will enjoy a dynamic, caring, informal, and hard-working organizational culture.  The Executive Director, with the Associate Director of Develoment and Communications, currently manages all aspects of development, and is eager to transfer day-to-day responsibilities as well as strategic positioning to a seasoned Director of Development.  Employment at FYI offers tremendous opportunities for decision-making, creativity, and constructive teamwork.  The importance of FYI’s mission is evident in the commitment and passion of our staff, as well as the  children and families we serve.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and execute annual fundraising plan

  • Secure financial support from individuals, foundations, and corporations

  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with donors

  • Create and execute a strategy for building a sustained base of annual individual donors

  • Plan and manage special cultivation and fundraising events

  • Research, generate, and track proposals and reports

  • Ensure effective donor cultivation through strong communications including newsletters, annual report, and website
                                       

Qualifications

  • MA preferred, plus relevant professional training

  • A proven track record of three or more years of success at a nonprofit of similar size or larger at meeting fundraising goals

  • Demonstrated success in winning government and private grants, and in securing corporate funds

  • Demonstrated capacity to build funder relations

  • Excellent writing and communication skills

  • Strong executive functioning skills; ability to prioritize responsibilities and manage the efforts of a development team of two (plus the executive director’s support)

  • Knowledge of fundraising software

FYI Financial Overview:  FYI’S Annual Operating Budget of $2.6m is comprised of 19% foundation grants, 11% private/individual gifts, and 70% government funding. Our endowment is $130,000. We own the building that houses our headquarters at 505 West 171st Street.  Expanding FYI’s portfolio of  foundation, corporate and individual gifts is a current priority.

COMPENSATION:  Highly competitive salary; excellent benefits including health insurance, twenty-one day’s vacation per annum with third year increase to 24 days per annum, and a flexible schedule with some opportunity to work remotely.

Director, Elementary School Programs

About the Position.  The Director of Elementary programs leads high-quality out-of-school time services for 220 children from pre-kindergarten through the fifth grade.  With public and private funding, programs focus on addressing the needs of the whole child through afterschool, Saturday and summer camp programs. The Director will manage all three programs, supervise staff, and guide the implementation of high-quality activities and services in the areas of social-emotional learning, the fine and performing arts, and recreation – complementing the program’s current excellent literacy practices. The Director will work collaboratively with the Education Director, Director of Administration, Clinical Director, two Program Coordinators, and the Executive Director, ensuring this a fully supported position.

Qualifications.  The best candidate is: visionary, dynamic, and energetic with strong executive skills; excited by the opportunity to build wonderful programs for children and families; comfortable collaborating with colleagues and working in an inter-disciplinary environment; balances high expectations with compassion in working with families, children, school personnel, and staff.

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Education, or closely related field, preferred

  • Three to five years of experience working with children

  • Two years of experience supervising staff and program management

  • Experience working collaboratively with teachers and parents

  • Demonstrated competence facilitating groups

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Spanish/English fluency preferred, and demonstrated cultural competence

We are seeking candidates who are interested in careers in education, social work or related careers, who are enthusiastic and caring, and who will appreciate extensive staff training and support. 


QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field or college student in relevant fields of study

  • At least 18 years of age

  • Spanish/English bilingual is a plus

  • Experience working with children and or teens

  • Strong judgment, clear boundaries, and positive relationship-bilding skills

We are seeking people who love their craft and are able to help children to discover their own passions and interests through new learning and experiences. Flexible work hours fall with the Monday – Friday time frame from 3:30 – 6:00 pm

Qualifications

  • MA, BA and College Students – based on experience

  • Ability to provide instruction in any of the following areas: art (collage, sculpture, murals, water color and other fine arts), arts and crafts (jewelry-making, beading, sewing), self-defense (judo, karate), story-telling, book-making, dance (step, modern, traditional, hip hop), singing, music (drumming; vocals or instrumentals); acting; film-making; photography; organized sports

  • At least two years’ experience working with youth

  • Experience facilitating youth groups 

  • Ability to engage young people in meaningful, developmentally aligned activities; able to develop theme-based projects with progressive learning steps

About the Position: This is a 15 to 22-hour per week position. The Food Specialist prepares nutritious home-made meals for approximately 50 participants, served every day after school, and for special holidays and celebrations. The best candidate is a good cook and well-organized with strong meal-planning skills, and can contribute to a warm, friendly atmosphere during meal times.


QUALIFICATIONS

The Food Specialist is responsible for providing nutritious, balanced meals and maintaining food safety practices to protect the health of the participants.

  • Valid ‘Food Protection and Handling Certificate’ from the City of New York

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 2+ years of experience in the food service industry, preparing food for over 60 people

  • Bilingual English/Spanish, preferred

  • An understanding of all current state and local food safety and handling regulations

  • Ability to comply with Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) USDA regulations

All FYI employees are required to pass the following screening procedures:  National Sex Offender Registry; NYSDOH fingerprinting Screening; New York State Clearance Review Background Check; Three Reference Checks; Physical with updated TB Test.
